While it seems like I just left Geekcorps for Mercy Corps, I now have a yet another new job. Well actually two new jobs - both dream jobs for me:
First, I am consulting with infoDev at the World Bank to develop public discussion around education, technology, and the developing world. The current vision is a community of practice that engages educators and technologists to share their knowledge and experience with low-cost ICT devices in the education sector. Think OLPC News on a grand & professional scale - both in the level of discourse and the impact on decision makers: http://www.bbwindow.com/2008/switzerland/building_online_communities.html
Next, I'm now the Senior Director of Inveneo's ICIP program. Inveneo puts the tools of ICT into the hands of those who need it the most, people and organizations in the rural and remote areas of the developing world. I'm developing their Certified ICT Partner (ICIP) program to build a community of local technology practitioners to empower social change in over 1,000 underserved communities. This is what I always wanted Geekcorps to become - a scalable solution to the twin problems of technology in the developing world: technical and local ICT capacity http://www.bbwindow.com/2008/america/directing_inveneo_icip_program.html
Please join me in celebrating these two new jobs with two events on either side of this great nation, a happy hour in San Francisco on Friday and a BBQ in Washington DC on Sunday:
San Francisco Happy Hour
Friday, May 29, 6pm
21st Amendment
563 2nd St

Washington DC BBQ (please RSVP)
Sunday, June 1, 6pm
Wayan's Back Porch

Yes, I'm going to be bi-coastal now as the World Bank (and my wife!) are based in DC while the Inveneo team is in San Francisco. Just to add more time zones and travel to my life, the ICIP partners are spread across Africa. To frequent flyer madness I return.
